From 2022 to 2024, the Participatory Project of Zeladoria, Conservation, and Restoration – “Learning with the Casa Amarela” took place in the historical property built in the early 20th century, located in downtown São Paulo, at Rua da Consolação, nº 1075 — a remarkable example of architecture and of multiple cultural expressions.
The project was preceded by initial inspections and emergency protection actions. It was a collective, open, and participatory initiative, involving different communities and entities.
With the collaboration of several organizations and participants, and with the goal of disseminating traditional knowledge, the heritage education activities became a tool for empowerment and for strengthening human bonds with cultural heritage.
In addition to the multiple interpretations of the house — reflected in a plurality of drawings, both technical, artistic, and above all, free — the project also offered workshops on arts, crafts, and the preservation of built cultural heritage.
The architectural significance and details of Casa Amarela were expressed through the gestures and learning of the participants.
A project of extramural culture, it brought the periphery into the process of knowledge-building — opening the house to its surroundings and to what lies beyond — taking built heritage and memory beyond its own walls.
The conservation and restoration projects, as well as the historical research, were guided by an orienting methodology, with documentation and technical guidelines developed by Estúdio Sarasá.
At the beginning of 2025, Sarasá Institute completes the complementary projects of Casa Amarela, integrating into our team Professor Dr. Helena Aparecida Ayoub Silva, from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP) — a long-standing partner in work with built cultural heritage and a member of the Fiscal Council of Sarasá Institute.
